Medihotel

The Royal Perth Bentley Group Medihotel was developed to bridge the gap between hospital and home.

It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides a comfortable space for guests while allowing hospital beds to be given to patients who need them most.

Located on Level 11 in A Block at Royal Perth Hospital in Wellington Street, the Medihotel has four patient rooms, each with a bathroom and access to a communal kitchenette and lounge area.

Who is eligible to stay?

The RPBG Medihotel offers short-term accommodation for patients and their carers in two instances:

  1. Patients discharged from hospital and waiting transport home
  2. Patients prior to admission who need to visit the hospital for an appointment, procedure or test.

Clinicians - nursing, allied health and medical - must consider the following criteria before making an accommodation referral.

Criteria for patients who can stay:

  • Inpatients who are ready for discharge with no ongoing inpatient requirements
  • For pre-admission referrals, does not require inpatient admission prior to scheduled appointments, procedures or investigations
  • Has no suitable short-term accommodation options identified by clinical staff in the metropolitan area
  • Can independently care for themselves or with the assistance of a carer
  • Can follow emergency procedures

Criteria for patients who cannot stay:

  • Requires inpatient care including monitoring or in-patient rehabilitation
  • Pose a risk to themselves, others or hospital property in an unsupervised environment
  • Active concerns for the potential for substance use and behavioural issues within the Medihotel
  • Have no fixed address without an interim accommodation plan (phone 0424 155 038 to discuss this client group)

Aboriginal clients: Please discuss the suitability of this accommodation with the Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer (AHLO) or other representative to ensure cultural needs and sensitivities are met.

How do I refer patients to the Medihotel?

Submit an eReferral and then phone 0424 155 038 once the eReferral is submitted.

If required, an application for patient transport must be initiated at the same time.

Attach a completed Guest/Carer Acknowledgement or complete this at the Medihotel with Operations Hub staff.
